The digital wave that engulfs our society and the change that is coming with the spread of artificial intelligence is inevitable. At the end of the presentation of the activities of the Prosecutor's Office in favor of its digitalization, the result of the projects being developed by the General Directorate of Digital Transformation of the Ministry of Justice, Álvaro Ortiz , attorney general of the State, explained how the Public Ministry is living the case that occurred in the Extremaduran town of Almendralejo of photos of minors manipulated by artificial intelligence so that they appeared naked.
From his point of view, “ we Fax Lists have not yet received the police information , regarding the report and what the security forces and bodies are preparing on this matter. "We are very concerned about these types of incidents as a phenomenon of the use of new technologies to commit possible crimes and invade these spaces of vulnerability of minors."
In his opinion, “the worst thing is that these types of phenomena with minor aggressors are worrying and repetitive . I also want to send a message of certain tranquility. The institutions are working, the police are doing it, as well as the Prosecutor's Office. There are sufficient regulatory elements to, in principle, with what is coming to us, or the development of new technologies, to be able to stop this type of possible criminal behavior."
In this regard, he recalled that “we have a criminal offense that protects the physical and moral integrity of minors . Regarding the use of minors in this type of realistic appearances, such as in the case of Almendralejo, it also seems that we protect those areas. This does not mean that in the future, with new means of committing crimes, modifications will have to be made to the Penal Code.”
