Her head was pounding. For some reason, she couldn't wait to get out of that building. Being as quiet as she could, Olivia made haste as she made her way outside, feeling a sudden need to just be out there - despite the fact that it was freezing cold and she was not used to the weather. She had no idea what time it was, other than the fact that it was dark and she hadn't been able to sleep.
Olivia had taken the trouble to change from her nightclothes to her jeans and sweater, tucking each pant leg into a warm boot and throwing a scarf around her neck. Suddenly feeling the urge for a cigarette, she couldn't stop herself from reaching under the bed and grabbing her packet and lighter, shoving both into her pocket and almost running out of the room.
Once she was outside, she took a deep breath and let it out in a sigh, watching her breath crystallize into tiny cloudy particles as the night air stole the warmth from them and acted as a mild analgesic and took the pain from her head. Walking further on, Olivia strode to the edge of the courtyard, snow crunching under her heavy boots. Normally she wouldn't have chanced smoking here, but since there was no one to bother her at this hour, why not? Stopping once she got to what she deemed was a suitable area, she looked up, staring at the sky, lit up by a myriad of stars, too many for her to even begin counting.
"Que magnifico," she mumbled to herself, running a hand through her short, unruly hair before taking a cigarette from the packet shoved into her pocket, lighting it without a second thought, taking a long drag from it and closing her eyes. Yes, she needed this. She needed the stars, the night, her cigarettes and quiet. Sleep? Not so much.
