Times had been pretty quiet lately, a happy change from the past. Atticus rolled out of his bed with a yawn and pulled on some jeans that were laying on the ground. "Hey Nathan." The bigger boy said to the one still in bed. "Time to get up bud." He said with a gentle nudge to Nathan.
Atticus walked over to the closet and pulled out a shirt and slipped it over his head. "You got any plans today Nathan? If not, I was thinking we could do something. Seems like we haven't done anything together in a bit."

The smaller boy flinched automatically as he felt the nudge against his arm, but he relaxed almost before the movement was complete. Atticus was the only other person with a room key, and ever since the previous year's graduation, he hadn't had to worry about any old enemies breaking in. Besides, there was only one person with that voice, only one who would wake him so gently, only one who would want to spend time with him.
Nathan sat up and rubbed at his eyes, still half-buried in the sheets, then kicked his feet out and let them hang over the edge of the mattress. "No, I'm free." Even if he wasn't, he would have dropped meeting the president himself to spend the day with Atticus. "What do you wanna do?"

"Great." Atticus said looking back and gave the other boy a small yet warm smile. "I don't really have shit planned but I feel like we can find some trouble to get into." He said moving back to Nathan's bed and sat down next to the boy. "Not too much trouble through, we've done pretty good staying out of it for a bit."

"Yeah..." Nathan rested his head on the other boy's shoulder. For once in their lives they were having a quiet break from mayhem. He wasn't sure of everything Atticus had gone through; he claimed to be a kid from the streets, but that was just his cover memories interfering. But even if he had the memories implanted, they could still be traumatic. As for his real memories, Nathan knew they were littered with Gulf War combat, not to mention his death. Nathan's own life had been much calmer until he came to Stone Brook, but it was still a sad, lonely affair. In fact, he wasn't sure the two had been safe from threats since being reunited.
"Sure! Where do you want to go?" He reached for a rumpled t-shirt from the end of his bed and pulled it on.

Atticus ruffled the other boys hair as he leaned his head on him. "We'll be fine Nathan. Ill always be here to protect ya, you know that." He said giving the other a warm smile. "I don't know, I say we just walk and see where it brings us." He said as he moved from the bed and grabbed a jacket from the floor. "Sound good?"

He nodded. Nothing could hurt him while Atticus was around; that much he knew. Even when Kayne was torturing him, he'd been protected. Atticus would go to any lengths to protect him, even dying, and that was what Nathan worried about. He'd lost Atticus once; he couldn't lose him again, especially when he might not come back a second time.
"Sure." He slipped on socks and shoes and shoved his wallet into his pocket. He was still too afraid to drive, but he did carry ID.
