The courtyard was cooling off, and, Cora knew, would just get colder as the night wore on. She had dressed for the occasion, insofar as she ever dressed up, but dressed first and foremost for the weather. She looked even slightly more bulky than normal in the bright sweater, but she was warm, and that was all that mattered.
People had already begun arriving, and they were mostly just standing around and chatting so early into the party. Cora strolled into the thick of things, searching for something to eat or someone she knew, whichever she came across first.

Constance wasn't a big fan of parties. It was safe to say that she was a wallflower, though she had attended many parties, they had been filled with people her parents age, so she'd ended up sitting in the corner reading. In fact, she'd come prepared with a bag just big enough to fit the small book that was inside it which hung loosely from her right shoulder.
She had dressed up a little, wearing an emerald green dress that was fitted to her waist then flowed out to her knees, covering black nylon tights. She wore her small faded blue jean jacket, which matched her pale blue flats. Her clothes didn't actually match that much at all, but she didn't really mind, this was one of the first times she chosen her entire outfit herself, and she was happy with it.
Her eyes scanned the place, searching for one of the people she had met recently. She thought she spotted Cora somewhere in the crowd, and moved off to find her.

Tokyo, Nepal, Moscow, Paris. London was his personal favorite. It had been hard to get any peace with all these bright, energetic new years, but it wasn't like he had anything better to look at. Not yet, anyway. Stone Brook was still on his new years list, and he just barely had the decency to see this one in person.
Ian stifled a yawn, resting against a wall off to the side of the room, his eyelids barely propped up behind thick sunglasses. He hadn't dressed for the occasion at all; his typical t-shirt, jeans and jacket seemed good enough to him. He didn't have a date or anything, and he had a feeling he'd be collapsing clothed tonight. Regardless, this place looked pretty cool right now. Not something to miss. Propping himself up in a quick motion, he decided to go looking for something to eat. He could use some nondescript punch.

In the end, Cora found the drinks first. She fetched herself a cup and tried to move out of everybody else's way, aiming for one of the courtyard walls where she would be able to see much of the rest of the place.
On her way there she spotted a familiar figure in the crowd: Constance, unless she was crazy. She veered off that way, only to find herself caught in the growing number of people trying to get to the refreshments. She was just considering giving up and flying over everybody's heads when she finally managed to worm her way almost out of the worst crush. Now more in Constance's direct line of sight, she called out to the girl and waved a beckoning hand to catch her attention. Then she found herself facing a boy on the fringes, going the opposite direction, eyes hidden behind sunglasses despite the fact that the sun was going down. "Excuse me," she said, trying to slip around him. Then as an afterthought: "Have fun trying to get through all that," with a gesture at the students at the table. "Unless you can fly or something."
((Bad post is bad. Oh well.))

A party. And she was certainly not one to miss out. Maybe it would even be enough to keep her from pranking random people. That was only a maybe though. It was a good thing she had been able to pack a couple things quickly from home. It wasn't much, but she hadn't had time to go shopping for more yet. Anyone who had looked in her closet, or even in her room would've seen quite a large difference between her side of the room and her room-mate's. It was just a pretty shirt basically, and a pair of blue jeans. Comfy, but if she had to defend herself or anything, she was set. It was Jodie's best outfit too. No shopping equalled no fancies. She headed over to the refreshment table, but saw it was way crowded. Ah man. That stunk. Well, this was as good a time as any to practice her newest trick. She just needed a clear view...there! Through a thin space between people, she could see where the cups and the punch bowl were. She whipped out a ribbon of light, made it solid and then picked up the punch ladle. There was a cry of surprise that issued from the crowd and Jodie couldn't help but snicker a bit. She dipped the ladle into the bowl and filled up a cup. Then she put the ladle down and picked up the cup with the ribbon, bringing over the top of the crowd to herself. Now that it was in her hand, she took a sip. The punch wasn't bad. She laughed at the fact that she had just been able to do that successfully. She looked around. Was there anyone she recognized? Anyone she wanted to talk to? She noticed both Cora and Constance, as well as a guy that she would definitely classify as cute. But she wasn't nervy enough to go up and start a conversation. Funny, that. She had enough training to scare some grown men, but could she talk to a teenage boy at school? Nope, no way. She walked over towards Constance with a smile. What could she say? The girl was nice, and there was something almost magnetic about her. Jodie thought she was pretty cool. She whipped out her light ribbon again and tapped Constance on the shoulder when she fairly close. Jodie grinned. "Howdy."

Constance was clutching her small bag with the book closely to her right side, not wanting to loose it in the large crowd, it was her favourite book after all, that's why she always took it with her to places, it was only one of the books that could pull her in completely, making her unable to hear or see anyone around her at all. She noticed Cora in the crowd as she called out, gave a small wave, and began to weave her way through the large clusters of people around her to get to Cora at the other side of the crowd. When she got to her roommate, she was talking to a stranger in sunglasses, she found it slightly odd that he wore sunglasses when it was getting dark out, but she found many things around here odd and decided it was best if she didn't really pay much attention to them. "Hello." She smiled gently, greeting them both in her soft British accent.
Just after Constance had greeted Cora and the stranger, she felt someone tap her shoulder and she swiveled quickly around to see the grinning face of Jodie behind her. "Hello Jodie." She smiled happily, glad to see her. She was now with both of her recently found friends.

The boy was trapped in the middle of the crowd. Oh god, oh god, oh god. There were too many people. Gaaaah. Why did he even come to this party? He spun around, trying to find a way out of the sea of students. There! The boy saw a small opening and quickly darted through the people to make his way out.
"That was fun..." The kid said with a sigh. This is why he never did parties or any big gathering. Waaaaaay too many people. Kaiser pushed the bright, blonde hair out of his eyes and tried to find someone, anyone he knew. He realized fairly soon that he didn't know anyone and let out another sigh. Woohoo, such a fun party.

Jodie saw Constance swivel around and saw the smile and she grinned.
"Hey. Good to see you. If you want punch, let me know. My powers are finally becoming a little more useful." She held up the cup. Red solo cup. Incidentally, that made her want to break out in song, but she was in control of her speech enough that she did not break out into the 'I fill you up' line.
"I used them like a lasso and wrangled myself some punch." Then Jodie muttered to herself.
"Wrangled myself some punch...some drink...some soda...some punch sounds so weird considering my training. I need a thesaurus, and quick." She rolled her eyes and sighed. Then she noticed who Constance was talking to and her eyebrows flew upwards.
"Cora? That you? Hey again." The unruly hair wouldn't have looked good on many other people, but it suited Cora. Jodie could hardly believe it, but it did. She wondered how those curls were managed though. She knew through her mum that curly hair was super hard to manage. Her mum had had wavy hair, leaning towards curly, and it had been horrible on the best of days. Jodie could hardly remember a day when she didn't hear her mum complain about her hair. And it really wasn't that curly. Jodie honestly couldn't imagine what Cora did to stay sane. She could hardly stay sane around her mum and her hair rants.
"Thought I'd say 'hi'." Then she noticed the guy Cora was talking to. The cutie she had noticed earlier. Well then. She didn't know quite what to say.
"So...how you been? And what's with me having friends whose names start with C? Not that I have anything against the letter of course. Or the names." Way. To. Go. Botch it completely. Oh well. It was a party. She was nervous. She wasn't used to parties. She'd only been to one big one before.

Cora was about to add something to Ian, but was distracted when Jodie greeted her. "Hi, you two," she said to both girls, and waved with the hand not holding her punch. "This is, uh--" Well, she still didn't have the guy's name. Not that she knew him that well, but talking to someone without introducing them seemed a bit rude. She looked back at Ian. "Sorry, what's your name?"

Buuuuuh! Where to go? The boy looked around. People. People he didn't know, why couldn't he have more friends? Well, this was a party wasn't it? That's how you make friends and stuff. Okay. Kaiser took a deep breath and looked around and found a small group of people. What did he do? Just go up and say something? Why was this so difficult!?
Alright. He was gunna do it. He was gunna talk to them. The girls and that guy. He could do it. Like the little engine that could. 'I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.' The boy thought as he moved over to the group. "Um...hi." The boy said nervously as he gave them a small wave. "I...er...I'm Kaiser."

Jesus, it was like Times Square in here. Wandering across the room, he had somehow managed to get corralled in a group of people. He'd seen most of them before, but not in person - they were being quite friendly, considering. Maybe that was how parties worked around here. "Hey. Yeah." He replied to nobody in particular, hoping that that just about covered the things that were asked to him. There were a couple. One of them was his name, right. "Ian. Nice to meet you." This time, he had managed to turn his head to face the correct person while speaking - what an achievement.
Barely closing his eyelids, he took a look around at all of them. Cora, Jodie. Another girl with a C name, as was made apparent. Then Kaiser, who appeared pretty lost in all this. He was welcome to join the club. On the bright side, this was all enough to completely distract him from the fact that he still didn't have that drink.

"I've been well, thank you." Constance told Jodie with a cheerful smile and a small laugh as Jodie spoke about friends with the letter C at the beginning of their names. Her attention then turned to the male Cora had asked the name of.
Her large eyes flicked to the boy who had moved over to the four of them and introduced himself, "Hello." She replied gently as he greeted them. The other male introduced himself to Cora as Ian. "I'm Constance" she told the two strangers softly, not that either of them had asked, she had just been taught that if someone told you their name, you should tell them your own.
Constance was actually getting excited for New Year with all these people who were close to her own age around her, at home the new year wasn't made a big deal out of at all, her parents would be working, the house staff would have Christmas and new year off to be with family, so Constance would usually be alone, reading, not particularly looking forward to another year on her own. New years day she would get a vague 'happy new year' email from her brother. And a letter during the week from her aunt to tell her how drunk she'd gotten at her new years party. But she had a feeling that this year may be different, that she'd actually enjoy learning things from people and possibly even make a couple of friends.
