About the character
``Name;; Ian Chase
``Nicknames;; Have you ever tried abbreviating a three-letter word?
``Age;; 17
``Gender;; Male
``Birthday;; November 5th
``Grade;; 11th; Junior.
``Heritage;; Generally, your average American mutt, but he is partly Irish on his mother's side.
``Orientation;; Stuff like that doesn't really cross his mind. He'd assume he's boring old hetero.
Appearance
``Eyes;; Blue-gray
`` Hair;; What appears to be an ambiguous dirty brown/blonde mix, shoulder-length.
``Height;; 5 feet 11 inches
``Weight;; 140 pounds
``Body Type;; Lean.
``Skin Color;; Pale and easy to burn.
``Tattoos/piercings/scars;; None notably.
``Dress style;; He wears sunglasses at night. And during the day, and every other time if he can help it. He also loves jackets, of the tight, warm, pockety variety. Without jacket pockets, he'd have nowhere to put his hands. Jean pockets are too low.
``Overall;; He seems pretty average from afar. That typical distracted teen; probably a stoner, you'd bet. Stares into space behind shades, has a kind of breathy far out voice that he only uses when he needs to, doesn't look like he ever gets his hair cut or shaves. Blonde hair, blue eyes - or maybe brown hair, grey eyes, it's such a mixed up mutty mess - and an average body shape of a young adult who does average things. He could be from anywhere, he could have seen anything. Upon close examination, it's not hard to see that he's seen too much. If you've ever heard the expression "you've got old eyes", it applies here more than anywhere else. Face to face, he looks really, properly world-weary.
Personality
``Likes;;
Reading
Peace and quiet
Coffee
Good old distracting one-on-one smalltalk
Winter sports
Fishing/boating
``Dislikes;;
Bright lights
Loud noises
Supermarkets
Spicy food
Coca cola - specifically, he will only drink it when mixed with lemonade
``Hobbies;;
Reading
Going for walks
Fishing
``Quirks;;
He opens and closes his eyes regularly, switching back and forth from one form of sight to the other, like switching gears on a car - whichever fits the immediate situation.
He has a serious tendency to stare - his gaze is unnervingly solid, and he doesn't always notice or care where it's pointing.
He usually stands very still, with little excess movement.
He sometimes laughs at random things that he didn't even find funny.
``Flaws;;
He is not passionate enough to bother with a lot of things that he really should do, and ignores them.
He doesn't do well in crowds.
He doesn't have much patience with people. He's blunt and easily annoyed by certain things.
He has no concept of privacy.
``Secrets;;
His greatest fear is being struck blind, since it would mean he'd never be able to see darkness again, forever trapped in his Sight ability. Then again, maybe living in permanent darkness would be even worse? He doesn't know. Sight's a touchy subject. He often jokes about this as if it's no big deal, "blind jokes" being a personal favorite of his dry repertoire, so he doesn't have to seriously think about it.
"I'm just your average useless jerk" and "No, I've never seen that before" are two lies that go hand in hand all the way down the path of his life. There's always something he hides to make him seem like just some random guy, who can control his powers perfectly and respects the privacy of others. The truth is, privacy is a foreign concept to him. He's seen a lot of things. He'll always see more. A lot are probably related to you. That's just his natural state of existence, which is unfortunately not very relatable.
``Personality;; A guy who's kind of had enough of the universe. He sees it all the time, he knows so much about it that he's run out of passion for most things. He'd rather sit alone in a pitch black room and stare at the ceiling, really. Get some peace, ignore all those people everywhere. He knows how to function in social situations, but he prefers to get away with as few words as possible. He does enjoy some nice mental stimulation, though, so friends really do him good, when he runs across one who sticks around. It helps him when he feels he's contributing to someone's little old life, instead of a pawn in something a trillion times bigger. It's the little things.
History
``Mom;; Sarah, 41, housewife, an average mother-son relationship - they irritate each other, but they still love each other.
``Dad;; David, 48, patent agent, no real relationship to speak of.
``Sibling(s);; None.
``Pet(s);; None.
``Other;; Not really.
``History;; Ian's childhood was troubled, though not due to his family or the life they provided for him - in fact, if he had been a normal child, he would have turned out great. Unfortunately, his powers were with him from birth. No one could tell what was wrong with him, why he had such trouble sleeping, why he cried all the time. Doctor after doctor, and nothing. It wasn't until he was a few years old that he could indicate what was happening efficiently. As the truth of the situation became more and more apparent, he became more and more stressed. His mother was the only one of the family who saw it as a gift instead of a curse. She called it divine, from heaven. Ian felt the opposite.
As he grew up, he tried to live like anyone else. Practically everyone thought he was a calm and silent dreamer, when in reality, the things he saw drove him near the edge of rational thought. Luckily, he could handle it by now.
His mother had been the one to find Stone Brook, and he was sent there right away. Her idea was to send him off to a place where he could advance his power, and use it for good. His father's logic was that perhaps he'd feel more at home among other people like him. Ian himself? He didn't really care.
``Powers/Abilities/Gifts;; Omniscient Sight - whenever he closes his eyes, he sees with the universe instead. His vision can go anywhere, near or far to his actual body. Sometimes multiple places at once. This vision always sees very detailed "true forms", and cannot be deceived or blocked by illusions, invisibility, darkness, et cetera. Also, the only way to turn it off is opening his eyes. Yes, he sees bright unobscured mobile truevision every time he blinks. He's never seen real, prolonged darkness in his entire life.
The vision runs on an unknown, presumably psychic force, more based on the mind than anything to do with actual physical sight - he doesn't just "see" things, he "knows" them. His thoughts are what guide it, and it does the rest on its own.
With practice, he will obtain greater control, and see with even greater focus, picking out exactly the data he wants and nothing more - and there's really a lot of useful data there to look through. Hopefully this will also make the experience of using it less stressful for him, and he'll be more at peace.
``Role Play Sample;; AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
