John de Lancie
About the character
``Name;; Jonathan Winston Miles
``Nicknames;; Uncle John
``Age;; 352
``Gender;; Male
``Birthday;; June 18th
``Grade;; University Degrees in History and Teaching; Currently the History Teacher of Stone Brook Academy
``Heritage;; British American
``Orientation;; Heterosexual
Appearance
``Eyes;; A normal greyish blue
`` Hair;; Used to be a dark brown back in the days, almost black, but now the grey streaks just keep multiplying as he grows older and older.
``Height;; 1,76 m ~ 5' 10"
``Weight;; 86kg ~ 190lbs
``Body Type;; Fit
``Skin Color;; Caucasian
``Tattoos/piercings/scars;; N/A
``Dress style;; Seeing as how he is a teacher Jonathan knows that if he wanted he could basically dress any way he wanted should he choose to. He manages to do so with style and ease though, considering that even on a normal day off he would wear jeans and a button-up shirt. Nine times out of ten he can be seen dressed like this when on duty too, though with a tweed jacket added on top of that for proper appearances. The so far unmentioned tenth time is more limited to special occasions, family dinners and the like, but even this simply consists of him adding a tie and calling it a day. He is very rarely if ever seen in mere "lounge attire", but that simply comes down to a disinterest in the style and a specific interest in "proper" clothing.
``Overall;; At around regular height and weight, Jonathan really doesn't look that odd when compared to others. Though when you consider that he's probably thrice as old as he looks you start to wonder what he eats to stay so healthy. With a rather bushy hairdo and a circle beard to match, along with his style of tweed and jeans, he does look a bit like someone's uncle. And seeing as how "Uncle John" is what he goes by with his only remaining family nowadays it does fit rather well.
Personality
``Personality;; Jonathan does have a serious aura surrounding him, and in a sense it's a rather accurate imagery of him. Just like he always do everything to his best ability he expects the best from those around him, even more so of his students. Those who excel gets even further hope laid onto them, and he expects nothing less than the world of those few. He know the virtue of diligence, and want nothing less than for his wards to realize the importance of a work well done. Happiness and joy can come out to play only when you're certain of the bread on your table, and he does come across as a bit of a dull kill-joy for those obvious reasons. He does so with good intentions however, and he only wants his students to be kept away from what he had to endure in his life.
With a caring heart he cares and protect not only his pets but also his family, his friends, and even his students. Following in the tracks of his late father he speak publicly about the rights of the Gifted, and how they're not that different from those around him. His students he greet with an open mind and heart, and tries to explain to them the fear of the common man, and tell them to be wary of letting dark thoughts cloud their mind. One of the faces outwards not only for all of the Gifted but for the school as well, and yet a man of wisdom and kindness to the students and teachers of the academy, Jonathan is somewhat of the silent protector of the school. It all comes with a great cost, though. There's a big reason as to why he does what he does.
Being as old as he is has put its toll on him, and he know what hardships follow with life. Fear and hatred; Pride and prejudice; Famine and poverty; all of those some of the many dark sides of humanity. The hardships of struggle is an old friend of his, against both nature and state, and he only wants his wards to be free of the horrors he's had to endure for these past 300 years. Yet at the same time he's wary. Whole days fly by as mere moments; Months seem as almost nothing; Even whole years are nothing more than yet another four seasons of life. The 60 years of life for the everyday man is nothing but a smudge compared to his eternity. He has soon surpassed that number six times already. Why should he care? He heals! He's immortal! He was there when the great plains was nothing more than the land of the tribes; He was there when a new nation took its first steps; He was there when brother fought against brother; He lived through the great depression; He has watched nations rise and fall. He's been through more than any man should ever have to witness. What stops him from simply snapping and loosing all care and hope for humanity, and those around him?
Fear. Fear of finally snapping. Fear of loosing it all. Fear of becoming the monster in the fairytale. With a vice grip he tries to keep hold of the last strands of humanity he has left: His teaching, his pets, and his family. Without them to shine in their lives, to fill his many days with hope and joy, he's sure he would fall into the abyss.
``Likes;; Even though all bitterness there are several things in life Jonathan enjoys. A good book and a great meal never ceases to amaze him, passing his knowledge along to the new generation has always been something Jonathan has put his heart and soul into, and the past history is something he finds very important to keep hold track of. Far greater than any of these though is those close to him.
Cucumber has been there with him for a long 70 years, a long-time companion by his side, and just like Jonathan he doesn't seem to get any older. Likewise his family is very, very dear to him, the last trace of his human life. He keeps track of his several times great grand children, celebrates Christmas with them every now and again, and all in all makes sure they have what they need to survive the hardships of life. And his students and teaching is his last gift to those around him, and he keeps at it with gusto and grandeur to make sure his wards get the best teaching around.
``Dislikes;; Loneliness. 350 years is a long time for anyone to be alone, and even though Cucumber is a companion to him these days who knows how long he will last? Who knows how long Jonathan will last?
The selfishness of mankind is something that disgusts him, no-one realizing how precious life actually is and always wasting it all with their own petty drama. Not focusing on being the glory of someone's life, those in the upper stage of society not giving a single thought to those beneath them...
The fear and insecurity he face is a constant reminder of both, this simple wait to finally snap. He hates it. Not knowing whether you'll actually be sane the following year is a horrible strain on the psyche, and most likely it is only his friends and students who keep him going.
Yet throughout all of this, through a loathing of his immortality, a hatred for the pettiness of mankind and a fear of finally stop caring about them, there are some more simple things he don't enjoy. Pickled food has never been a love of his, and he simply finds the orange colour to be garish and horrid.
``Hobbies;; Reading has always been a hobby of his, and something he holds dear to himself. Knowledge never goes out of style, and thus he tries to keep up with the latest news and findings and always ending out on top.
Likewise cooking is something he finds enjoyment in, with the many new styles rising every day it is a constantly changing matter which always gives him new experiences to endure his years.
And though he doesn't play any himself, music has always been by his side. It being as immortal as he is (at least following the beginning of music by notes), he love experiencing the new and "hip" styles coming and going only to arrive yet again a decade or so later. Even these new electronic styles of music appeal to him, and if even these do then surely every kind of music will.
``Quirks;; Even though no one would expect it, he enjoys electronic music more than most other he have heard. The constant rhythm soothes his soul, and helps him listen to the actual music and artistry behind it.
He's also got a weird taste in humour, with a streak of gallows' humour flavouring his life. Seeing as how death is something for others than him it isn't that strange, but it still puts people off at times.
He can't handle numbers, and is actually rather blind to them. And dyscalculate as he is he's got a tendency to misremember numbers, like years and dates. He tries to surpass it by having periods of time rather than dates, but it still gets a chuckle or two from his students.
``Flaws;; His gallows' humour and dyscalculia are two lesser flaws of his, and could probably be seen as quirks rather than flaws. Some greater however are his insecurities, this constant fear of loosing his grip on his humanity. He's also got some sense of hubris, which ain't that strange considering his age. He has seen more things than people normally do, and thinks of himself as wise beyond his years. Whether or not this is true is up to people to decide on an individual scale, but he still tends to put his nose where it doesn't really belong.
``Secrets;; His age is one of the greatest "secrets" in his life. Telling people his actual age almost only leads to two reactions: Laughter, or Fear. Surely such a great number must be a joke, right?
He also keeps his fears a secret, and always gives the outwards appearance of keeping his cool. And with an age of 352, who but him could take on such an adult role? No one but his closest few (and his psychiatrist) knows of his fears of snapping, of harming one of those short-lived humans. And he likes to keep it that way.
History
``Dad;; William Miles, deceased, Gifted Rights Spokesman. Gifted,
``Mom;; Elisabeth Miles-Bourne, deceased, Tailor. Gifted, minor Telekinesis.
``Sibling(s);; Taylor Elisabeth Rockwald-Miles, deceased, Lawyer. Gifted,
``Wife;; Matilda Miles-Gold, deceased, Medical Doctor. Non-gifted
``Children;; Oscar Miles, deceased, Doctor. Non-gifted
Diane Miles, deceased, Tailor. Non-gifted
``Pet(s);; Cucumber "Q" the Cat, a Persian breed who while playful seems like he couldn't care less about what his antics does to Jonathan and his home. He do however appear to have the same powers as Jonathan, and has been a constant companion to him for the last couple of decades.
Lancelot XI "Lancie" the Dog, a Great Dane who is really rather protective about the young ones in the family. The eleventh of Jonathan's dogs to carry the name, and probably the third one to carry the protective streak of his former namesakes.
``Other;;
Jonathan does have a long line of family, seeing as how he's had both wife and kids in his past. At the moment he's 16 generations down the line, and his blood flows through the veins of more than 4 millions different individuals. For obvious reasons he has lost track of most of them, and only 16 cards of holiday greetings are sent from his home. And while all of those 16 do send him replies only 2 of them try to keep contact alive with old "Uncle John" in return, and seeing how his condition is rather frightening he can't really blame them for trying to stay away. Immortality is a frightening subject.
Normal tradition is that the parents tell their kids the truth about their weird uncle John on or around their 18th birthday (or even earlier should the situation demand it). It usually takes a while for them to accept him and his abilities, if they ever do, and the remaining usually gets more and more distant until they finally gets lost forever. Nonetheless he pushes on, trying to keep alive the last shred of humanity he's got left in his life.
``History;; It was a cold winter day in December, the Year of our Lord 1660, when a little baby boy was born to husband and wife William and Elisabeth Miles of Jamestown, Virginia. He was named Jonathan after William's father, Winston after Elisabeth's, and the young couple rejoiced as a new bundle of life and joy had finally entered their lives. Never did they realize what kind of horrors they would put the poor boy through in his long, long life.
Jonathan began life as seemingly just another kid, a young boy in a big, big world. He grew up, grew older, and started a life of his own. He and his wife Matilda met through friends, and soon enough marriage had been declared. About 10 months later Oscar was born, and some years later Diane entered the world. And as they usually say, the rest is history. They grew older, they got grand-children, and prepared themselves to finally pass on just like their parents and grand-parents had once upon a time.
He didn't however.
He was there by her side as his beloved Matilda passed away. He lived through the death of his both children, his many grand children, and even their children. He watched as his childhood home burned down in a great fire at the end of the 18th century. History simply left him behind, and with that he did the same and fled Jamestown. He spent some time in New York and watched as Independence from the British Empire was declared. He fled west and watched as the great roads of rail was laid down. He travelled east once more and lived through the Civil War, watching as brother turned against brother. And as the old saying goes, the rest is history. Yet throughout all of this he has managed to keep up with the lives of his lineage, the Miles family. One branch of his family rose to be famous Tailors, somewhere down Diane's bloodline, and Oscar's branch is filled with both Doctors and Engineers.

Powers/Abilities/Gifts
Unaging/Immortality
How his immortality works he doesn't know, but he know that it does. He hasn't aged a year past 40 or maybe 50, and this was in the beginning of the 18th century.
Regeneration/Healing
He heals damage at a far greater rate than others, and heals sickness and injuries faster than any other. Whether this is related to his immortality or not he doesn't know, but it sure seems possible.
``Role Play Sample;;
He heard a giggle behind him as he strode down the corridors of Stone Brook, and turned to look around. These youngsters, these children... not many a care in the world, only struggling with their own follies and drama. These were not normal kids though. These were his kids. His students. His wards. Down by the side a guy was seen dousing a friend with a light rain, and on the other side a girl produced a rainbow by shining light through a piece of jewellery. They were smiling. Happy. Yet he knew that they too endured horrifying pasts and tragedies. The girl had been expelled from several schools before coming to Stone Brook, all of them afraid of her flames, and her friend had been merely a young girl when she was suddenly aged ten years by her brother and exploded through puberty. This was three years ago, and even though an age difference of almost 7 years the two of them had been inseparable for a long while.
With a sigh he turned and continued walking, heading for the teacher's lounge. He passed several students on his way there, everyone of them with a story worse and/or weirder than the other. The guy with the wolf ears had been accused of being a werewolf on more than one occasion, the girl with the tail had had it pulled even more times, and the girl with the bacteria manipulation over by the water fountain had been accused of being a witch and run out of town. She had arrived only yesterday, and she still seemed very scared and lonely. He couldn't blame her.
Yet through all of this there were some happier stories. That girl with the green tint on her skin may be able to manipulate plasma, but she had been sent here by her family some years ago to help her control her abilities. She had even been offered a job at a physics institute to assist them in studying how Plasma actually worked in a controlled environment.
All of them, good pasts or bad, lived here in Stone Brook. It was a place for kids just like them, with powers and attributes no one could explain or understand, to live and learn about themselves, their friends, and the world around them. 'A place to keep them in' people say, but he'd rather call it a place to keep them out, those who say things like that. The prejudice against those with special gifts was big, and Stone Brook was a place to protect them from those who sought them harm. A home for outcasts like them. Like him.
"Professor! Professor!" he heard a voice shout behind him, and turned around. "Gabriel! How nice to see you!" he answered when he saw who was running towards him from down the corridor. He was a good kid. With blonde hair and glasses on the bridge of his nose the kid did carry the stereotypical look of your average geek, yet at the same time he couldn't really be further from it. Sure, he did study, and he was a bit of a clutz, but a genius he was not. He was on the Tennis team actually, and was one of the stars too. "How can I help you?" Jonathan asked, as Gabriel finally came to a stop in front of him.
"You have to come quick!" Gabriel said with his breath caught in his throat. "Thomas and Dennis are at it again!" he said alarmingly. And with a sigh Jonathan followed him back down, where angry shouts could be heard. These were his students, and it was his job as professor to make sure they were safe - even from one another.
