About the character
``Name;; Jodie Jade Richard (pronounced Ree-shar)
``Nicknames;; JJ, Jade, Lumen
``Age;; 16
``Gender;; Female
``Birthday;; October 17
``Grade;; Sophomore
``Heritage;; French Canadian/English/hint of First Nations
``Orientation;; Bisexual
Appearance
``Eyes;; Grey-blue (most of the time)
`` Hair;;Blonde
``Height;; 5'8"
``Weight;; 120 lbs
``Body Type;; Hourglass, fit
``Skin Color;; Caucasian (a good lot of the time it's tan too)
``Tattoos/piercings/scars;; A long scar down her back.
``Dress style;; Jodie has an eclectic style. She wears anything from band t-shirts to flower print ones. Anything from jeans to dress pants. Anything that suits her, and suits her personality at the moment, she'll wear. Sometimes she'll just throw something on quickly and sometimes it takes her ages to decide what to wear. And sometimes she just doesn't care and walks around in her pyjamas.
``Overall;; When Jodie uses her powers at a certain extent, her normally grey-blue eyes turn bright green. Her blonde hair, however, stays the same. She's just above average height, but that doesn't mean Jodie doesn't look scary sometimes. When she becomes angry, she can look scary even if she's wearing a flower print skirt! Sometimes she goes for a rebel look. That's her preferred look, but it depends on the situation and the occasion too. She likes the rebel look because her parents never used to let her wear stuff like that though. She keeps fit with acrobatics and her knife-throwing tricks. She tans just the right amount to be healthy, and not overly so. It's anyone's guess as to the origin of the long scar down her back. When the cops found her, it was already mostly healed.
Personality
``Likes;; reading, light, writing, denim, music, mints, garlic
``Dislikes;; the cold, darkness, snow, geometry, close-minded people
``Hobbies;; reading, writing, photography
``Quirks;; When she's nervous or bored, she'll play with her hands. Sometimes she'll be found bouncing her knees to an unheard beat. When Jodie's unsure, she tightens her ponytail elastic if she has one. She also likes eating both English mints and garlic depending on her mood. She's also skilled at knife-throwing and is acrobatic and flexible, part of her training.
``Flaws;; She enjoys starting fights when she's bored. The meter in her writing can be really off sometimes. When she eats garlic, either people avoid her, or she has to down some of those mints quick.
``Secrets;;A benefactor paid for her to come to the academy, and the person wasn't her parents. Her parents have other ideas of what to do with her powers. They try to hide their true intent from her, but another secret is that she knows most of theirs. Another secret is what her parents are like. Yet another is what her sister does for a living.
``Personality;; Jodie isn't the type to just stand there and take someone's insults. She has patience, but if someone gets on her nerves, they'd better watch out because under that cool exterior, she's a firecracker ready to explode. Her temper is fiery. Most of the time it's under control, but sometimes someone just pushes her a little too far. If she has friends, then her temper also protects them. She has more patience with insults towards herself than towards her friends. Jodie enjoys being with her friends, but she can also be a serious loner. If she doesn't have friends, it might bother her or it might not. It really depends on the situation. Depending on her mood too, she might eat english mints, or garlic. Maybe if people get it straight what the mood is for each food, they might know her feelings. Until that time though, she will probably hide it.
History
``Mom;; Jackie Lafontaine (born Smythe), 50, informant, married
``Dad;; Leonard Lafontaine, 46, doctor, married
``Sibling(s);; Jeanne Lafontaine, 25, spy/informant/assassin, single
``Pet(s);;No pets.
``Other;;She was a loner until the academy. Her benefactor is important to her, but she doesn't know who they are in the least.
``History;; Even after having her mind probed by a telepath and interrogated by the police, there are still many gaps in Jodie's story. However, there's some things that are known. One of them is how she came about her powers. We hope that's truth. And the other is what her parents wanted to do with her powers.
Most people get moody when they hit thirteen. For Jodie, that wasn't the only thing that happened to her. Her parents came up with plans for her future that weren't like the ones she knew normal teenagers' parents came up with. It all started when her parents announced that for her thirteenth birthday, they'd have a party where they invited some of their friends to introduce her finally to. They said they'd pay for her to go to a tanning salon. They knew someone who owned it. When she climbed into the bed, she felt a bit different afterwards, but dismissed the fact as simple excitement. But the next day, as part of the party, they lit up her candles and put a circle of sparklers on it. And suddenly, everyone in the room ducked down and covered their eyes. She didn't see anything wrong until she looked down and noticed she was glowing brightly. Her parents simply stood there calmly with sunglasses on. She still isn't sure about the origin of her powers, as her parents seemed to know.
The next few days are sort of a blur, and anyone who listens knows that Jodie left many things out in that period. But her parents wanted her to use the powers for something she wanted no part in, and so a private benefactor helped find her a different home. This period is when she discovered her parents weren't her biological parents. She had been adopted through some sort of agency. She hid her powers the best she could from her adoptive home, but eventually they discovered and became fearful of her. They never said so, and never acted like it. But she could sense it strongly. That's when her benefactor found the academy and sent in her application.
``Powers/Abilities/Gifts;;
- Light manifestation and manipulation: She is basically light. There's many things she can do by manipulating light.
- can sense the light and dark of people's feelings but isn't so good at identifying the individual feelings yet. Basically an empath, and she'll be skilled at it eventually. She needs to touch the person though to see the 'light' and 'shadow' in them.
``Role Play Sample;;
I walked into the apartment after him and reflected briefly on his words. I had already known that most people in the apartments at the army ranch had the same drab colour door. That's why I had changed mine. I was known for being different, and if my place was the same, then what would that say about me? I smiled before laughing and answering.
"Sergeant gives me the mandatory work time off that he gives everyone else here. He'd rather work me hard, but the superiors force his hand in that. He really doesn't like the fact that I'm able to rest sometimes. I appreciate the fact that he thinks I'm better with the animals, but I need some time to myself as well. As for the door, I have to defend myself there. I didn't fight at all. I simply approached the superiors and made big puppy eyes, fluttered my eyelashes and reminded them that red was my 'very favourite colour' and I needed something bright to come home to. These guys aren't as tough as they like us to think, y'know. Of course, it didn't hurt that I put on my dahling fake accent." I made quote marks around 'very favourite colour' in the air. I even put a fake accent on the very last words. The head soldiers had melted very easily. I smiled at the memory. Even though he was fine with the mess, I still reddened at the mess I had brought Kale into. My floor was still visible, but only in certain spots. Luckily the kitchen's linoleum was completely clear and there was a decent path from the door to the kitchen and each of the different rooms. Thank goodness. I had cleaned up a bit this morning. It had reminded me of a pigsty. It was still really bad, but at least there were some pathways and islands in the living room. The kitchen was only clear because tripping in the kitchen was dangerous. That was the one rule I had set for myself early on.
"You hungry? I think I have the ingredients for burritos or something. The key word, of course, being 'think'. I'm never sure these days what I have in my fridge and cupboards. You see, my neighbour is a girl who is hopeless at cooking and so she comes over regularly for meals. I've been teaching her a bit about cooking, but she still comes over to cook herself anyways. Of course, part of it is because her stove doesn't work, but if she was determined I'm sure she could flutter her eyelashes at the sergeant just as well as I can. But there aren't too many people either of us are friendly with. Count yourself among the lucky few, eh?" I laughed and he turned a little red. It was kind of cute. Then I thought about what I had just thought. Cute? Where exactly was this going? No, he was just a friend. They had already made that abundantly clear.
