The boy stirred, a groan escaping his lips. 'What the hell happened?' He asked himself as his eyes slowly started to open. His head was pounding and his body was on fire. He looked around the room, eyes becoming wide.
"Where am I...?" He asked as he tried to get up. Atticus hissed as his legs felt like they had knives in them. Wait...That's the reason he was here, it had to be. He threw the blankets off his body and the proof was staring him in the five. Both his legs were bandaged up, blood seeping through them.

For hours there was nothing but pain. He was almost awake, mere inches from consciousness, but his body remained helpless to struggle away. Instead he floated in a dark river, bobbing closer to the surface but never quite breaking through.
Finally he jerked into air, and he pushed through with a gasp. His eyes shot open as he breathed in deep. White... it was all white. He felt blind until he saw the red seeping through at his chest. Nathan stared in uncomprehending horror, then instantly sought safety. Where he found it, though, was shocking.
"Atticus?" he whispered. "Are you OK?"

"Nathan..." The boy asked, his eyes growing in fear...something he wasn't used to. "What happened to you? Why are you here?" He asked, ripping the IVs and tubes out of him. "Are you ok?" He asked, pulling himself off the bed, trying to stand. He instantly fell to the flow, the burning pain in his legs was almost too much to bear. He pulled himself to Nathan's bed. "N...Nathan." He said as he pulled himself up. "What happened?"

"I-I don't know..." The moment Atticus was at his side, Nathan wrapped his arms around him and buried his face in his shoulder. They were in a hospital, that much he knew, but Atticus wasn't supposed to be in bed. He wasn't supposed to fall, to be hurt... something was seriously wrong, and Nathan didn't know how to fix it.
"What's wrong?" he whimpered. "You're hurt..." It couldn't have been clearer. But the last time Atticus was in a hospital, he died. They had to leave. Now.
